Thank you for visiting my website. My name is Thomas Grund and I am a post-doctoral researcher at the Chair of Sociology, in particular Modeling and Simulation at ETH Zurich. Before coming to Switzerland I finished my PhD in Sociology at Nuffield College in Oxford. Currently, I work on issues around social networks, diffusion, cooperation and dynamics. Originally trained as a computer scientist, I made the transition to sociology in 2005. My goal was to combine my computer programming skills with sociological thinking to study how relatively simple interactions between individuals and groups lead to the emergence and diffusion of social patterns. I examine macro-implications of micro-dynamics in various settings, e.g. the performance of football teams, the dynamics of the international art market, the diffusion of violence, the outbreak of cooperation and the emergence of homophily.
